“What other countries have done is to create Curriculum Frameworks that provide a structure that shows how all the elements can come together to impact on learning. This is often done by establishing some key principles and values that need to underpin the whole curriculum, and then identifying the key skills and competencies that run right across it. This, in itself, is still theoretical and ‘words on paper’, but we need to follow this through to see how it impacts on curriculum design and so on the children themselves.” (Chapter 3)
The Iraq Framework
Brian Male has been working with the governments of Iraq and the autonomous region of Kurdistan to develop a national curriculum framework that will be common across the country, but which will allow for regional variation.
